Britney Spears has reunited with frequent collaborator will.i.am on a new song, “Mind Your Business,” which drops tonight. The pop legend and Black Eyed Peas frontman previously collaborated on the latter’s 2012 hit “Scream & Shout,” as well as Spears’s 2013 single “Work Bitch.” “Mind Your Business” is a mind-numbingly repetitive EDM track in the vein of those two songs, featuring spacey synths and a robotic, sliced-and-diced vocal from Spears.
The track, rumored to have been cobbled together from leftovers recorded for Spears’s 2013 album Britney Jean, is a pointed jab at the press and others who continue to turn the singer’s personal trials into tabloid fodder. “Uptown, downtown, everywhere I turn around…Paparazzi shot me, I am the economy,” she sings, while will.i.am counters with typically inane wordplay: “Too much looky-looky, get up off me, too much watchy, whoa.”
Following last year’s “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John, “Mind Your Business” is Spears’s second single (and second collaboration) since her controversial 14-year conservatorship was terminated by a judge in late 2021. She recently announced a tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me, to be published in October.
