It’s been nearly three months since Lady Gaga teased her seventh studio album in her Chromatica Ball concert film, but it looks like her little monsters will have to wait a bit longer. “WHILE YOU WAIT TILL LG7…‘DIE WITH A SMILE’,” the singer posted on her social media accounts on Thursday.
“Die with a Smile,” a duet with Bruno Mars, marks Gaga’s first new music since 2022’s “Hold My Hand,” which was featured in the blockbuster film Top Gun: Maverick but which failed to take flight. The pop star’s last successful single, 2020’s “Rain on Me,” found her joining forces with hitmaker Ariana Grande, while Bruno continues his own hot streak of collaborations following tracks with Anderson .Paak and Cardi B, among others.
Co-produced by D’Mile and Andrew Watt, who previously worked with Gaga on the Rolling Stones’s “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” “Die with a Smile” is a throwback to the love songs of the last century. “If the party was over and our time on Earth was through/I’d wanna hold you just for a while/And die with a smile,” Gaga and Mars belt on the catchy, if dreary, power ballad.
The music video, directed by Daniel Ramos and Mars, sees the duo—dressed in matching western-inspired duds—performing the song on a vintage-looking TV show in front of an audience of mannequins.
